Hi guys have been checking out your blog and i just want to say congratulations on becoming parents, your babies are beautiful and they are very lucky to have parents that love them look after them and take care of them and which planned on having them and which wanted them.

Im a single bisexual man living in Perth and i love diversirty in all it's forms especially diverse families, i especially think it's wonderful and great to see same sex couples having and raising children, all children need is love and aslong as children are loved and are looked after then it doesn't matter what the sexuality and marital status of the people are, whether it be a man and a woman or whether it be two men or two women or a single man or a single woman or any other combination it doesn't matter, love is what matters and love is what makes a family.

Good luck to both of you guys and wishing you all the best and wishing both of you all the happiness together and wishing you both all the happiness in raising your beautiful kids together.

Best wishes

Yo Adrian, fantastic news : - ) It's great to hear that your success is becoming so widely known in the gay and broader community, encouraging others to follow suit. I fall into the category of folk who are interested in having a baby or twins (!) either on my ownsome (if necessary - and then meeting the right partner later to raise my little family with me) or finding online or serendipitously another child-loving 30's/40's plus - in my case - hetero single, who wants, like me, to have a child even if the odds have been stacked against it for some time - either through not finding "the right mate" or from postponing any parenting attempts due to road blocks like ill health, ambivalence due to early childhood stuffed-upness (to use a polite phrase!) and any other diversion/anomalous circumstance defying the conservative norm of early cohabitation and nuclear family creation.
It sounds like things are going from great to wonderful for you and Ralph. Yay! I look forward to revisiting your earlier blogs and checking out your future steps in your parenting journey. Cheers, Tiya

Great video! Perspective taking is a crucial skill needed to survive in a social world. The inability to perspective take is most clearly demonstrated in children with autism. Luckily, perspective taking is a skill that can be taught to kids with autism (see Darin Cairns).

For those luckily enough to develop perspective taking skills without explicit instruction, perspective taking can provide powerful information to guide decision making and social interactions. Of course you need to remember to do it... encouraging kids to perspective take in social interactions early in life develops a life habit that will make them more resilient in social conflicts.

I know this is a really old post now, but I wanted to comment anyway, even if you don't end up reading it. Thank you for such a well thought out post. My husband and I had one birth child and then couldn't have any more, so we decided to become foster carers. We've cared for many children over the years and have one daughter who is ours forever through foster care. But earlier this year we decided that we really wanted to have another child that we could raise on our own, without interference from a department or birth mother/siblings/father etc, and we discovered surrogacy in India. We were thrilled, only to then find out about the NSW law and yes, we live in NSW. I am devastated as we have watched parents who cannot care for their children, who abuse their children, just keep popping more and more babies out -- the government doesn't feel the need to stop them from having children, and yet, now we will have to move our whole lives to another state to have another child. It's a really tough one.

Thanks again for your post. And congrats on your beautiful family. :) Zoe

Thanks for the note! Commercial Surrogacy is illegal in all AUstralian States and Territories, but it is legal for Victorian's to go overseas and undertake Commercial Surrogacy. It is illegal for NSW residents to do this though - they can't undertake Commercial Surrogacy anyway in the world. I think this is the same in Queensland. Read this entry for more information: http://twodadfamily.com/2010/11/12/a-sad-day-as-nsw-makes-commercial-surrogacy-illegal/

Hope this is helpful for you and of course, always seek advice from people who know the details from your specific state. A great place to start is: http://gaydadsaustralia.com.au/
